London will become the first city to officially host the modern Olympic Games three times. Steeped in history and cultural heritage, London will become the epicentre for the 30th Olympiad which will be hosted from the newly purpose built Olympic Park based in East London. The transformed 2.5sq km of land will also house the Olympic Village, a space dedicated to the athletes.
The total cost of staging the London 2012 Olympic Games is expected to be an estimated £9.3bn.

The Aquatics Centre is located in the South-east corner of the Olympic Park and will be the main Olympic venue for the Diving, Swimming, Synchronised Swimming, Paralympic Swimming and Modern Pentathlon events. It will house two 50-metre swimming pools and a 25-metre diving pool. Spectators will be able to view the events from the two temporary wings that have been specially constructed for the London 2012 Olympic Games with a holding capacity of 17,500. Among the facilities at The Aquatic Centre will be a crèche, family-friendly changing facilities and a café. Outside of the Olympic Park you will also be able to visit Stratford's Cultural Quarter, The Stratford shopping centre and entertainment venues like Stratford Circus and the Theatre Royal Stratford East. The famous East End District is within walking distance of the Olympic Park and with fantastic transport links, including a brand new Channel Tunnel Rail Link and Stratford Tube Station; you'll find it easy to get out and about to visit all the sights, attractions and culture of London.

The Basketball Arena is a brand new, but temporary, arena based in the north of the Olympic Park and will play host to the Basketball, Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Rugby and Handball events. The arena will also house the Velodrome and the BMX track, making the most of the arena's resources and space. It will have the capacity to seat up to 12,000 people for the Olympics basketball events, as well and the semi-finals and finals of the Olympics handball. The Basketball Arena will also be used as a holding area for athletes during the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the games.
